A huge part of how I fell in love with this game are the cast of characters. I was already charmed by the art style, but the characters fully sold me. All of their personalities are so strong and I want to squeeze them in my hand like stressballs. Their only crimes, in some cases, are not appearing enough. I need to see more of them!!
Peppino Spaghetti is the titular owner of Peppino('s) Pizza, and a complete hot-headed emotional wreck. I genuinely love everything about him. His expressions are my favorite part, though: he's constantly emoting. As seen in the TV HUD in game, he has so many reactions to everything. One of my favorites is with the Firemouth transformation: he looks like he can barely handle the spice of the chicken wing. It's really funny.
This middle-aged fat man is the definition of tetering on the edge. The only reason he climbs up the tower is because the thing that matters most to him, his failing restaurant that's in debt, was threatened. Not even a promise of anything, just a threat. And god, is he a powerhouse. He might look like a sopping wet pathetic little thing, but he can pack so much punch in just one hit. All of the bosses underestimate him in the final showdown on the top of the tower, too, not expecting him to finally snap and beat the hell out of them.
I like to think he's a pretty damn good chef. He clearly puts his heart into his craft.
Gustavo, someone I like to think is Peppino's best friend, has been described by McPig as "the Mario to Peppino's Wario": he's a jolly, happy-go-lucky fellow that loves to go on adventures. Gustavo and Brick became friends by beating the hell out of each other and coming to a tie. Great way to make friends I think.
Did you know that Gustavo was originally going to be easy to anger too? In an older demo, failing to deliver Pizzas to the gnomes in Gnome Forest would cause him to go super and beat the hell out of Peppino. He makes a new pizza afterwards and gives a jolly ol thumbs up. I like to think Gustavo can be a genuine menace if you piss him off too much. Wonderful guy!
I like to think after the tower, the two go on some adventures together. There's art of Brick piloting a plane, and I like to think he learns how to do that. I also like to think the following is something Gustavo says anytime Brick's intelligence is put into question:
You know, he's quite inteligent for his species.

Surprisingly enough, I didn't care much for Pepperman at first. I thought he was pretentious and silly, but that's about it. After introducing another friend of mine to Pizza Tower, they fell in love with Pepperman, and I met some other friends who also really liked him. Needless to say, my eyes have been opened.
In a few ways, he reminds me of Papyrus from UNDERTALE: he's a creative artist and highly confident in not only himself, but his skills. However, the main difference between them is Pepperman's view of himself often comes off as condescending. He holds himself so highly, that everyone else just doesn't get it. This especially reflects in his art, because after Peppino (or Noise in his campaign) beats him, he's so sour about it he makes art depicting them poorly. What a sore loser.
There was going to be a spin-off game titled American Pepperman at some point. I really love the colors and art style for it, especially since it's implied to be something similar to Pepperman's own art style. Excluding that, he's also got an impressive range of artistic skills: spraypaint, acrylic paint, and obviously pencil sketches. I kind of wanna see him draw more! More that isn't, well, just himself.
If anyone has a character arc in this game, it's Vigilante. He starts out as a bounty hunter going after Peppino, convinced he's an outlaw that needs to be brought to justice. He's even fair about it, too, throwing Peppino a revolver to have a fighting chance. After he loses, he takes a back seat at Noisette Cafe as he watches the tower open up. Upon the last floor being unlocked, he's seen peering into the background in thought, seemingly unaware of what the tower's purpose truly was as he gazes upon Pillar John's body hung by sticky cheese. After being defeated for the second time on the top of the tower, the structure begins to crumble, threatening to come apart, much like Vigi's worlview when Peppino runs into him on the way out of the tower. Upon successfully fleeing the tower, the credit end cards show him now targeting Pizzahead, realizing the true culprit. Vigi's even training the Toppins to help take him down, too.
I initially didn't care much for him, but as I talked about Pizza Tower with friends, I learned to appreciate him. He may be a "Goomba in a hat" character, but I love those types of guys. He has an amazing amount of depth, despite it all being incredibly subtle. In his boss fight, his deceased grandfather, John E. Cheese, fights alongside him as a ghost. It feels like the two were pretty close. It just makes me wonder what pushed Vigi to persue the path he's on.
This dude is ADHD incarnate and wonderfully ridiculous. Did you know his full name is Theodore Noise? That's what "The" in "The Noise" stands for. And he says Peppino Spaghetti is a horrible name. He's also almost as self-obsessed as Pepperman is, except this time it's for brand recognition. The best way I can describe this guy is "Bugs Bunny but malicious." It's great. Also, his stache? Fake. Part of the costume. He can only grow peach fuzz.
Despite how loud and proud Noise is, there's a lot of subtle stuff with his character. He's dating Noisette, but he's not public about his affection at all. He doesn't hate her, but he's just private about that. Speaking of, in some art by McPig where he's out of costume, he's portrayed more calm and controlled. Some aspects are played up when he's in costume, and it's a subtle way to give a lot of depth to his character. He's also a sore loser.
In a lot of concept art, comics and whatnot by McPig, he and Peppino are portrayed as rivals. I cannot get enough of these two. Noise's sole mission is to piss Peppino off by being a nusciance. When he's got nothin' better to do, he figures he should bug the hell out of the Italian man. You know, for fun! There's never a dull moment when you put him and Peppino together in the same room. I personally want to put those two in a confined space for 24 hours and see what happens.
Noisette is a stupid woman and I love her. If Noise is ADHD, then this girl is autism. You cannot convince me otherwise. She's a silly, energetic well-meaning lady who just happens to be annoying. Unlike Noise, it's not on purpose! She's just a chatterbox who will talk your ear off about the latest concoctions for her cafe, like the chocolate corncob. She's got a knack for baking, but she has really, really odd combinations.
When I first played Pizza Tower, I was left wanting to see more of Noisette. It was absolutely criminal how little she showed up in the game. My prayers were answered with The Noise Update, where we saw her take Gustavo's place as the one pointing Noise towards the escape, and the one to take Mr. Stick's place at the boss gates. You have to give her tips in order to proceed, and if you're playing as Noise, she'll give you a big wet smooch as a reward. Great. I also really like that she shows up in the game's final rankings, too, sometimes not even bothering to take Noise's shenanigans. I'm oh so glad she's seen more now.
When I first encountered Fake Peppino, I was genuinely confused. Then, as the fight introduced itself and I progressed, I felt a little unsettled but was drawn in. What the hell is this thing's deal? Is he some sort of clone? After his bossfight, he made me wonder about Pizzaface's true intentions. He's a failed clone of Peppino, if the WAR level is anything to go by. He seems like the most stable one, too, not going down after just being hit once and managing to replicate nearly every ability of Peppino's, outside of some quirks. They're clearly sentient, too, considering they followed Peppino out of the tower when it was crumbling, and instead of trying to harm him, they opt to just immitate him. If anything, he's like a goofy little fly on the wall. It makes me wonder though, what were they doing in the abandoned restaurant behind the boss gate on the fourth floor? Why was he made?? ... What's he going to do now that his only home, the tower, is gone?
I like to think he just hangs around Peppino('s) Pizza after the tower, mostly chilling in the vents or trying to help out in his weird and goofy ways. Something I do think is really funny is his relationship with The Noise: unlike Peppino and Noise, where it's a genuine, strong rivalry, here it's nothing like that. Hell, when he does show up in The Noise campaign, in the chase sequence if Fake Peppino gets too close, Noise just. Screams at him. And he hops off like a scared cat. Poor thing was told to reenact the fight, only to get yelled at. I could see Noise using Fake to get at Peppino, saying he's better than the real deal. Fake wouldn't feel comfortable with it either, as he sees them both as equals. At least now, both Peppinos share a mutual dislike of The Noise, although for different reasons.
I'd like to see this weird bug more. I wanna know what he's up to outside of stalking Peppino and mimicing him.

Outside of the main cast, as listed above, I've grown to have a soft spot for some other characters. Specifically, some characters exclusive to The Noise's campaign.
Before the Noise Update, these guys were just background cameos in Pizzascare. I thought it was funny, especially knowing the history: Peddito and The Doise are fan characters created by Robby1scool, simply being recolors. The developers found them silly, so McPig threw them in the background. At some point, he even made a boss portrait of The Doise for when The Noise would be playable. For a while, I doubted they'd still go that path, but out came The Noise Update. I'm glad it came out the way it did.
A lot of their characterization comes from the BYOC DOOM mod. Doise weilds boulders and rocks instead of bombs, and Peddito strangely is now a demon, not unlike your typical Sonic.exe portrayal. It seems like he has an unknown vendetta against Doise, chasing after and actually killing him in The Noise campaign. Doise to me is a more extreme version of Noise: his "Doise" persona IS him. He's just as crazy, if not more than Noise. The only difference is Doise doesn't have the budget or crew to back it up, resulting in his arsenal being more cobbled together and rough... like his boulders.
Peddito and The Doise are best described as bizzaro versions of Peppino and The Noise, and I love it. I wanna know what Peddito's deal is though.
When Maurice first debuted on McPig's Noise Update stream where he and friends beat DOOM: Ancient Aliens, I thought he was funny but I didn't really care much about him. Admittedly, I was sour about the fact he was Peppino's brother. I headcannoned him to be a single child, and Maurice threw a wrench into things. Throughout the stream, his character proved to be genuinely horrible: tricking his Nonna into wasting 8,000 dollars, throwing out Peppino's DVD set of Stargate into a river when they were kids. He even has a kid named Maurice Jr. and got pissed when Peppino got the kid a bike instead of a Nintendo Switch. Peppino only stood up to Maurice at the end of the stream after the relentless bullying, telling him to "SHUT THE FUCK UP." After a few days passed, I... started to like Maurice?? Huh!?
A huge part of it is the fact he's unapologetically a dick, which makes it fun to hate him. He literally tells a (stream-exclusive) character, El Diego, that "this is America, speak English," prompting Noise of all people to respond "Dude." Maurice is racist, and that's hilarious?? Not only that, but the way he perceives everyone around him is just mind-boggling. To him, Noise is a Christmas elf who "doesn't need an update." Gustavo, The Doise, and a bunch of others just annoyed or creeped the hell out of him. Gustavo, of all people?? He's literally the nicest guy around, what is his issue!!
Long story short, I love to hate this stupid idiot. I want to punt him into a trashcan, since he loves working at the garbage factory so much.
